A useful distinction
A familiar-looking board can hide unfamiliar rules. Before moving a piece, look for the permitted actions, the goal and anything that ends a turn. Visual resemblance to another game is not evidence that its rules are identical.
Put it into practice
Write one example move in plain words: what the player chooses, what changes and what remains fixed. Compare that description with the actual instructions. If a rule is unclear, keep the question visible rather than inventing an explanation from the artwork.
